The Clewoo project wants to approach the world of fashion in a different way.
Consistently with the sustainability principles inspiring its own Code of Ethics, Clewoo cares about the regeneration of the forest heritage and the protection of the biodiversity of the territory to which it owes the resources it employs. For this reason, for the production of our linden and beech soles, we don’t only get our supplies exclusively from selected primary providers of timber, operating in total compliance with the rules for exploitation and renewal of forests established by the laws of their countries (Romania and, marginally, Serbia), but we have also decided to give back to the environment and the territory more than we have received. To this end, in 2020 we finalized a reforestation agreement with the Romanian Forest Authority consisting in the total financing of an ecological reconstruction project for 2 hectares of degraded woodland, set up in 2020 in the forest district of SEBIȘ-MONEASA, in the county of ARAD, where the factories of Falca Romania SRL are located.
Thanks to this initiative, 10,000 saplings have been planted in just one year: 6,000 beeches, 2,000 oaks, 1,000 cherry trees, 1,000 larches, which, when fully grown, will create a forest twice or three times the size required for our production. The quantity of wood generated, in fact, is estimated by the Romanian Forestry Authority itself to be 1,000 - 1,100 cubic meters, while our annual consumption of wood in the last two years was 350 - 550 cubic meters*.
However, the balance of this operation goes further, because regenerating a forest means much more than giving back to the territory and the community the resources used for the products desired by its consumers. As stated by the Authority itself, it also means guaranteeing advantages "of ecological and socio-economic nature: the reduction of atmospheric pollution, the restoration and improvement of the soil quality, the guarantee of the ecological balance, the reduction of the soil degradation process".
In 2021 too we will keep working with the utmost respect for the environment and for the territory where we operate.
